Polish worker named UK's Most Heavenly Builder

A Polish man who worked in wet and windy conditions to build a guesthouse in the Scottish highlands has been named the UK’s Most Heavenly Builder.

Janusz Jolkowicz, 41, was nominated for the Federation of Master Builders award by satisfied customers after working in rough weather and difficult conditions.

Home owners Lou and Bill Oppenheim said he was the only builder keen to take on their job building a guesthouse on a remote hillside in Highland Perthshire.

Despite rough weather, within 30 minutes of starting the job, Jolkowicz had built a wooden chute to transport materials down the steep slope and also hand-dug the foundations.

Mrs Oppenheim told the BBC: “He never complained, and despite the incessant rain he just kept working. In fact, his favourite phrase was ‘no problem’.

“The standard of workmanship and attention to fine detail is amazing.”

Jolkowicz has previously won the Scottish Heavenly Builder title.
